Concert 3 : Portraits of Purcell

Guest conductor: Andrew McAnerney

With singers of studio de musique ancienne de Montréal

To this day, the music of the incomparable English baroque composer Henry Purcell, rightly hailed as the Orpheus Britannicus, continues to enchant and move lovers of great music. Through choral works of stunning beauty—English-language anthems, funeral music and ode, as well as one of his only two Latin motets—and a choice of artful instrumental pieces, the depth and audacity of his genius is bound to strike a favourable chord. For the occasion, Arion is delighted to collaborate with the Studio de musique ancienne de Montréal, a choir acclaimed for the “hypnotic beauty” of its performances, conducted by its Artistic Director Andrew McAnerney.
