On Friday February 10, the noble baroque cello will be showcased by soloists Jaap ter Linden and Kate Haynes during the concert 100 years of cello duets.
A little history!
At first confined to the role of accompaniement until the 18th century, the baroque cello took more importance thanks to certain composers, such as Vivaldi and Boccherini in Italy and Duport in France, who lay the groundwork for virtuosic playing. The concert 100 years of cello duets will honor such important composers for the cello: "This concert is a sort of grand voyage through the fascinating history of the baroque cello", declared Kate Haynes, cellist for the concert.
Intimate conversation between cello and public Instrument of a hushed and warm quality, it is capable of human sounds thinks Haynes. "The sound of the baroque cello is that of the human voice. Played in such intimate settings such as Tudor Hall and McClure Galery,
the cellos wrap the public into this deep relationship and involve them in its intimate conversation."
"It is a great honor to play with Jaap...", adds Haynes.
We wouldn't miss this either Kate!
