Arion Brings its 30th Season to a Glorious Close with the Concert Grandiose & Majestic Mozart!

Montreal, Tuesday, April 26, 2011 — To crown its 30th Season, Arion Baroque Orchestra, Quebec’s only early music orchestra on period instruments, will perform Mozart’s grandiose “Jupiter” Symphony, the prodigious musician’s final essay in the genre. The concerts will take place on May 12 and 13 at 8 p.m. and on May 15 at 2 p.m., at Redpath Hall.

Montreal, Monday, April 11, 2011 – There are plenty of new developments in store for Arion Baroque Orchestra’s 31st season—a season that will see the ensemble settle into its new residence in Bourgie Hall at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. A new concert hall with ideal acoustic qualities for the great baroque repertoire, music of extremely high-calibre, renowned guest soloists and conductors, some appearing in Montreal for the 1st time… How can anyone resist?

Montréal, le mercredi le 2 mars 2011 – Arion Orchestre Baroque, l’unique orchestre de musique ancienne sur instruments d’époque au Québec, présente pour une première fois au Canada le claveciniste d’origine iranienne Mahan Esfahani qui vit maintenant à Londres. Les vendredi 11, samedi 12 et dimanche 13 mars prochain, Arion interprétera plusieurs œuvres de Carl Phillip Emanuel Bach. Le jeune prodige du clavecin Mahan Esfahani dirigera le concert. Nous aurons également l’occasion d’entendre la directrice artistique d’Arion et flûtiste Claire Guimond en tant que soliste.

Montréal, le jeudi 17 février 2011 – Arion Orchestre Baroque, l’unique orchestre de musique ancienne sur instruments d’époque au Québec, présente les jeudi 24 et vendredi 25 février prochain le concert Velours. La soprano Suzie LeBlanc et Eric Hoeprich, sommité mondiale au chalumeau, se réunissent avec l’Orchestre pour un concert aux sonorités riches et envoûtantes.

Montreal, QC – Arion Baroque Orchestra, the only early music orchestra performing on period instruments in Quebec, is proud to announce that it has exceeded its set goal of raising $200,000 in its 2011 fundraising campaign. “Through the involvement of all members of the fundraising committee and the leadership of this campaign’s Honorary President, Mr. Michael E. Roach (CGI), we have raised a record sum of $240,000,” stated Mr. Pierre Matuszewski, President of Société Générale (Canada) and Chairman of Arion’s board of directors.

Zone de Texte: Benefit Event of May 4, 2010 Arion’s fundraising campaign culminates with a benefit event taking place this evening, beginning at 6 pm, in the Parquet at the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec. “I would like to thank the entire community of Montreal business people who have supported culture and Arion for 30 years now, and who recognize the importance of culture in our society,” stated Ms. Claire Guimond, the ensemble’s Artistic Director.

 

Over 350 people are expected at this prestigious benefit event. They will have the opportunity to enjoy a concert entitled Baroque Pearls, during which Arion will notably perform Pachelbel’s Canon and Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto. Guests can also take part in a silent auction featuring over 85 lots. Arion Baroque Orchestra would like to thank its private partners, especially Société Générale (Canada) and CGI, as well as its sponsors: Fraser Milner Casgrain, principal sponsor of the benefit event; T.D., sponsor of the concert; and the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, sponsor of the auction.

Our Honorary President’s biography

 

Michael E. Roach was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of CGI in 2006. Prior to this, he served as President and Chief Operating Officer of CGI, a role he held since 2002. Michael Roach continues to lead and execute CGI’s Build and Buy profitable growth strategy which has led to significant growth. As a result, CGI’s global footprint has expanded to 125 offices in 16 countries with global delivery centres on three continents, and 31,000 professionals

                        worldwide.

 

Prior to joining CGI, Michael Roach served as President and Chief Executive officer of Bell Sygma Inc., a Bell Canada subsidiary formed to provide services to Canada's full-service telecommunications companies. In 1998, he spearheaded the merger of Bell Sygma into CGI, effectively doubling the size of CGI. Michael Roach’s earlier career with Bell Canada spanned 25 years.

 

Mr. Roach sits on the board of directors of CGI, Innovapost and the Conference Board of Canada. He is a Trustee of The Conference Board, Inc. (U.S.), and a member of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Political Science, as well as an Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration from Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario. Michael Roach maintains an active involvement in the Montreal community by lending his support to various charitable projects and events.
