Jacques-André Houle

Born in the United States, the violinist and violist Jacques-André Houle has been active on the Montreal music scene for 20 years.  He is a founding member of the Franz Joseph Quartet, a period instrument group and has recorded three CDs with them under the ATMA Classique record label.

He plays regularly with the Arion Baroque Orchestra, les Idées Heureuses and the Strauss-Lanner Ensemble, and is pleased to take part in performances of Les Boréades and the Caprice Ensemble.  With the Arion Baroque Orchestra of Montreal, of which he was the co-founder, Mr. Houle has performed as much in America as in Europe and Asia, both as a soloist and as a member of the orchestra.  Musicologist, Mr. Houle has written articles for the Encyclopedia of Music in Canada and the Biographical Dictionary of Canada, among others, and prepares the album notes for a large number of CDs produced in Quebec and elsewhere.
