Canadian soprano, Heather Newhouse studied at the University of Western Ontario, Canada where she completed a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance. In 2006, she completed a Master of Music at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. In 2006, she moved to France to pursue further training at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et Danse de Lyon. In 2010, she participated in the summer academy at the Festival d'Aix-en- Provence. In 2012 she was awarded First Prize at the Concours international de chant baroque in Froville and Second Prize at the Concours international de Mâcon. From 2011 to 2013 she was a member of the Opera Studio at the Opéra National de Lyon, working closely with Jean-Paul Fouchécourt. She performed in numerous productions : Parsifal (Blumenmädchen) directed by Kazushi Ono, Die Zauberflöte (Pamina) directed by Stefano Montanari and The Turn of the Screw (Governess) directed by Kazushi Ono. In 2015/2016 she sang Mlle Silberklang in Mozart’s Der Schauspieldirektor directed by Leonardo Garcia Alarcón and Governess in The Turn of the Screw directed by Patrick Davin at the Opéra national du Rhin. In 2017/2018, she sang Céphise in Campra’s L’Europe Galante with Les Nouveaux Caractères, directed by Sébastien d’Hérin, Berio’s Folk Songs with the Orchestre Symphonique de Mulhouse, directed by Patrick Davin and French premiere of Quatre jeunes filles by Denisov directed by Daniel Kawka at the festival Printemps des Arts de Monte-Carlo. She sang for the opening night of the prestigious « Nuits de Fourvière » in a new dance creation by Mourad Merzouki, Folia, a unique fusion of Baroque music and hip-hop dance. She sang Folia alongside the Concert de l’Hostel Dieu, directed by Franck-Emmanuel Comte, neapolitan folksongs and Vivaldi arias with a very engaging staging for the singer. Her engagements for the 2018/2019/2020 seasons include : Enone and Daphné in La Descente d’Orfée aux enfers by Charpentier at Théâtre de Poissy, and Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater at Saint John’s Smith Square in London with the Concert de l’Hostel Dieu, recital Bach - Kapellmeister & Cantor with belgium ensemble Ausonia directed by Frédérick Haas, Mozart’s Requiem with the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal directed by Hervé Niquet as well as a tour of Folia. In 2020/2021, her collaboration with Ausonia will flourish with numerous projects: Phèdre - Rameau, excerpt from Hippolyte et Aricie, a co-production with Les Festivals de Wallonies Combattimento - a piece built around and inspired by Monteverdi’s madrigal, japanese Noh dance-drama, baroque dance and a new composition by Claude Ledoux. Heather is delighted to record a programme of English music with Ausonia in 2022. In 2021/2022, Heather will tour Folia (Merzouki) in numerous festivals and opera houses – Chekhov International Theatre Festival (Moscou), Festival dei Due Mondi (Spoleto), Opéra Berlioz, Opéra d’Avignon, Opéra de Saint Etienne – as well as the concert version Dolce Follia with Le Concert de l’Hostel Dieu. She will sing Vespro della Beata Vergine de Monteverdi with Ensemble Aedes (Mathieu Romano) directed by Pablo Heras-Casado at Melk Abbey. In 2022, she is delighted to return to Montreal for a new collaboration with Arion Baroque, Mathieu Lussier, a project that will showcase baroque women composers as well as Rameau opera excerpts.
