Noémy Gagnon-Lafrenais

Violin - Canada

In the recent years, the québécoise violinist Noémy Gagnon-Lafrenais has been exploring repertoire through the filter of historically informed practice. Pursuing the quest for a genuine and creative expression of music, she spends much time wondering and wandering about the past.

Noémy performs actively in Canada, United-States and Europe. She has produced herself with Arion Baroque, Pacific Baroque Ensemble, Trinity Wall Street New York, New Vintage Baroque and Inwood Baroque. She holds degrees from the Juilliard School, the San Francisco Conservatory, and the Conservatoire de Musique de Montreal.

Countless musical encounters with colleagues, mentors and teachers, have helped her shape her musical identity throughout the years. To mention a few, Axel Strauss, Elizabeth Blumenstock, Monica Huggett, Richard Egarr, Enrico Onofri, Alexander Weimann, Ian Swensen and Steven Dann.Noémy taught violin in the Music Advancement Program at the Juilliard School, in UC Berkeley's Young Musicians Program and at Starr King Elementary School (SF), Camp Musical Vivaldi (France) and Camp Musical de l’Estrie.

She is a grateful recipient of individual grants from the Canadian Arts Council. One of which was concentrated on the study of works for solo violin by Westhoff, Vilsmayr and Telemann.
