Guest : Andrew McAnerney, Conductor

Music has always brought an added lustre to both sacred and secular ceremonies. During the English Baroque period, alongside anthems for voice and orchestra performed at church services, equally lavish compositions enhanced all kinds of events. Henry Purcell, for example, composed his ode Come ye Sons of Art for the birthday of Queen Mary II in 1694. William Boyce presented his ode O be Joyful in God all ye Lands for the installation of the new chancellor of Cambridge University in 1749, which Arion and the SMAM will perform for you in its North American premiere.
